Apple Crumble Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
Amazing. I followed the recipe exactly except for tossing the apples slices with flour first. It wasn't too sweet and was wonderful warmed up with a bit of vanilla ice cream. Thank you!

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
We liked these pancakes,(although we prefer buttermilk pancakes). They really puffed up to a thick pancake. I heated up the milk to keep it from making the melted butter start to solidify and get chunky. I will use this recipe again if I don't have any buttermilk on hand.

I would recommend using less swiss cheese.

Chocolate Mint Sugar Cookie Drops

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
I've made this recipe for cookie exchanges for years. I prefer making the recipe with butter instead of oil, and I roll the dough into balls and coat them lightly with sugar before baking. The resulting cookie is delicious, and goes really well with a cup of coffee.

Turkey Pot Pie II

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
This is ridiculously delicious. I don't usually go in for turkey leftovers but Mom sent us home with four pounds of turkey so... I started off by sauteing the onion and adding two stalks of chopped celery. Then I threw in some shredded carrot and a spoonful of minced garlic. I added some (leftover) Lima beans and some frozen peas. I also added several small potatoes finely diced before I threw in the soup and some extra milk to offset the starch from the potato. I cooked it on the stove top until the potatoes where almost done before transferring to a rectangular baking dish and spreading a tube of crescent roll dough on top. My husband and daughter dislike pie dough. Oh and I seasoned liberally with Zender's chicken seasoning. So good we had to force ourselves to stop eating. I had to promise to pack it up for lunches tomorrow.

Green Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
Excellent!! Tripled it for 26 people at Thanksgiving and it was all gone even with all the other yummy Thanksgiving food. I followed other reviews and used Dried Cranberries instead of fresh b/c I didn't want it to be too tart. Also added a little corn syrup to sweeten it up. Somehow the dressing was very thick though and I kept adding water to thin it out, especially after taking it out of the fridge the next day. Tossed salad with the almonds, more dried cranberries, red onion, and Feta cheese since not a blue cheese fan. Be sure not to overdue it on the onion!

Andrea's Pasta Fagioli

This soup gets very thick, more like goulash minus meat. The flavor is good, just weird consistency for soup.

Pecan Pie Bars II

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
Awesome recipe! I made for Thanksgiving, and everybody loved them. I am not a fan of pecan pie - too sugary, too gooey, too rich - but the bars have the same flavor and are just right. I used more like 3 cups of pecans - just coated the top until it looked thick and good. Turned out really well, I'd recommend it - I can't imagine them with only 1 cup of pecans.

Iowa Pork Steak

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
This is a really good recipe, but I have to give it 4 stars because there is WAY too much sauce. I say this even though I halved the sauce ingredients, and there was still SO much of it. I did use golden mushroom soup instead, which was very tasty. Halved the onion soup mix, water, and just used that one can of soup. I thought the package I had taken out of the freezer was pork steak, turns out it was boneless pork chops. I baked them at 400 for 35 minutes and that was just perfect. Very, very tasty... great served with mashed potatoes and green beans. Thanks, I'll make this again but drastically cut the sauce down. :)

Turkey Pot Pie I

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
I've never made a pot pie before, but this was a great way to use up left over turkey. I used about 1-1/2c gravy in place of some of the water and bullion and added some poultry seasoning and left over corn. It was very flavorful and a great dinner for a rainy night. I will definitely make it again.

Beef Stew IV

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
This was absolutely delicious. It really reminded me of the stew my mom used to make me, I think she must have also put corn in hers. So that was nice. I just made a few minor changes... used olive oil to brown the meat instead of shortening, added 2 cloves of garlic while meat was browning, omitted onions, added another bay leaf, and added 2 stalks of celery, chopped. Also, I used instant potato flakes to thicken it up instead of cornstarch (I think it's much easier and gets better results). We loved it! Served with french bread to mop up the sauce... perfect for a cold, snowy night. Thank you!
